My art is not like the others. I paint on an untraditional surface with benefits. Prepared cereal box cardboard or any single ply cardboard used in packaging is my plaything. I press it, glue it, tear it, weave it and preserve it and by combining painting, collage and semi abstraction I create amazing works of art.
I enjoy interest and surprises in paintings. Not knowing how something will turn out is part of the creating fun. It has taken me years to develop this painting technique which evolved from many stages of growth in my art career. I think the fun of exploring found materials to create with began in my childhood when my mom and grandma saved scrap cardboard like new shirt and underwear packaging for me to draw on since art materials were hard to come by. Cereal and cracker box cartons were opened up and cut up for drawing, painting and sculpture. Their encouragement is greatly cherished all these years later.
I've worked with traditional art materials which all have their value and qualities but recycled carton cardboard offers something special.
I love to mix my media to achieve a variety of textures and effects. Here are a few of my favorites.
